Respect for Creation and the Environment

by Josée

As a family we try to find little ways to protect our environment and the natural resources around us. One thing we do is recycle our paper products, cans, milk jugs and bottles. We also attempt to compost but the onslaught of fruit flies or the -30 degree Celsius weather do deterrent us at times. In fact, our compost pail is currently sitting outside in a pile of snow… cover with, yes, a pile of snow 🙂

Why the environmental rambling? Well I just came across this article on Zenit news: True Environmentalists are Pro-life, say Pope. I really enjoyed reading the full text article which touches upon many topics: the economic crisis, food security, nuclear arms, terrorism, and natural disasters to name a few. Here are a couple quotes from the article to peak your interest:

“It follows that the protection of creation is not principally a response to an aesthetic need, but much more to a moral need, in as much as nature expressed a plan of love and truth which is prior to us and which comes from God.”

“If we wish to build true peace, how can we separate, or even set at odds, the protection of the environment and the protection of human life, including the life of the unborn? It is in man’s respect for himself that his sense of responsibility for creation is shown.” – Pope Benedict XVI

If you read it I love to hear what you think!
