Potty Training

by Josée

It’s been a while since my last potty training post. I love to say that Monkey’s got it figured out, but that would be a lie. He’ll stay dry and pee on the potty as long as I drag him there – every hour. Otherwise, he’ll pee wherever: on the floor, the couch, in his highchair… anywhere except the toilet. Little threats or little treats don’t motivate him. At least he stopped pooping on the floor! I’ve heard that boys take longer to figure it out so I’m not worried, it’s just not cute anymore (not that changing poop and pee is cute).

niiiiice pic! I agree with you about the changing aspect though…babies are so much less.."ick" to change.

If our family is any example, little boys definitely take longer to train than little girls. My son was the youngest of the boys in the extend family at 33 months, and my daughter was the youngest of the girls at 29 months+. My daughter took no time to train. She pretty much did it herself. On Sunday she was in diapers by Weds she was totally trained day and night. My son, on the other hand took a month or so, even once we got really going with it. At the point where he needed to be taken to the potty every hour I figured he wasn't ready yet. The key for me was when he was actually dry all night long he was really ready for daytime training, until then he really wasn't. Both my nephews were not predictably trained until past 4 one niece was trained by 3, the other not until after then.

yup– boys take longer. All six of the girls in my family were potty trained no later than 2.5. The single boy wasn't day trained until 4 and night trained until at least 5.
I think girls have an inherent desire to keep themselves clean and boys just don't really care 🙂 That's how it played out for us, at least.

I'm following your potty training adventure closely hoping to glean some good tricks for when our turn comes!!

We wear pants and underwear on our heads too 🙂 It's always funny!
