Saturday Garden Journal (vol. 2)

Tomatoes
Zucchini
Rhubarb

I wanted to do a garden update on the weekend but it would seem that the weekend is already over. I haven’t planted anything outside because we are still in the process of making the garden beds. It’s a good thing too because we had a wicked hail storm on Saturday. We plan to make four 16 x 4 foot raised garden beds. Each bed takes several hours to build and install and we’ve managed to complete two of the four.

The tomato and pepper seedlings that I planted three weeks ago are growing well. I did plant some extra tomato seeds from the seeds I saved last year and from a package of Andy’s Buckflats Wonder that was given to me by a friend. I didn’t expect any of these extra seeds to germinate but all of them did, except one. I’m going to have quite a few tomato plants!

I should have waited to plant the zucchini seeds because the plants are getting quite large and I’ve already transplanted them once. Only one of the rhubarb seeds germinated and I’m not very impressed by the basil but they were kicked out from under the grow light to make more room for all the tomato seedlings.

Ooh, I'm hoping to make raised beds here, possibly this year. Did you follow a book or a site for instructions?

Oh to be outside working in the garden. Soon, I hope. We have a forecast for snow on Thursday and Friday, up to 10 cm, yikes!

I read a few different sites and books to get some ideas. There's a lot of info out there and I can pass some along to you if you'd like.

I know the feeling, but spring will come soon.
