Garden Journal (vol. 10)

by Josée

For the last week we’ve had hot sunny weather. As the temperature climbs to the mid 30s our daily rhythm has shifted to adjust to the heat. We wake early, break our fast and complete any necessary tasks around the home. There isn’t much work that needs to be done in the garden these days, a little weeding and harvesting each day and that’s it. I am starting to spend more time preserving the bounty that comes our way. The freezer is filling up with frozen fruit, pesto and vegetables. I’m also drying mint and lavender. The afternoons are spent relaxing and napping. Now I understand the value of siesta, it’s a necessity on hot days. After supper we usually make our way to the beach to cool off. Before the sun sets we take another walk through the gardens and feed our rabbits. Each season is unique and beautiful but summer, ah summer, it’s a wonderful season.

The thought has crossed my mind. You'll have to send me your favourite recipe.

The beets ended up being pressure canned in water! So no picked beets for now 😉
