Garden Journal (yr 3: vol 7)

by Josée

Summer is upon us! For the last couple weeks we have been experiencing steady mid-30°C (95°F) heat. Such intense and prolonged heat has acted as a catalyst for the many forest fires blazing across the province of British Columbia and for the last few days our blue skies have been hidden behind hazy smoke.

Yet with this lovely intense heat most of my garden is thriving. The tomatoes, peppers, corn, beans, squash, carrots, beets, parsnips and onions are growing into big healthy plants bearing much fruit… or vegetables. The peas and lettuce have succumb to the heat and are becoming more pathetic by the day. I am slowly clearing out these plants and trying to figure out what to plant in the newly cleared space. For some reason I feel a little stumped as to what I should plant there and would welcome any suggestions.
