Books I recently finished

Eight Hundred Grapes by Laura Dave
On the day of her dress fitting Georgia Ford discovers a secret that her fiancé has been hiding. Devastated, she drives back to her family’s Sonoma County vineyard in search of answers and comfort, but what she finds instead are more secrets and turmoil. A story about family, relationships, wine and forgiveness. This story was an enjoyable read.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Over the holidays I wanted to read something comforting, and was consequently drawn to the lovely story of Little Women. This classic novel tells the stories of four sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy, as they navigate the blessings and challenges of life with the gentle guidance of their mother, Marmee. The first part of the story is set in the family home and tells of the sister’s adventures while their mother is kept busy with war efforts and their father is working as a chaplain in the American Civil War. The second part of the story, which was once title Good Wives, finds the sisters separated by love and loss and how their bond keeps them united despite these things. It is a beautifully written book, one that warms my heart.

Books I am currently reading

Emma by Jane Austen
After reading Little Women, I decided to delve into the world of classic novels. I read Pride and Prejudiced a few years ago and thought to take up another one of Jane Austen’s book, this time Emma.

Swiss Family Robinson by Johann David Wyss
Swiss Family Robinson was written by Swiss pastor Johann David Wyss as a way to teach his sons life’s values and lessons, and this intent is obvious from the start. The story begins with a terrible shipwreck after which the Robinson family of six find themselves stranded on a deserted island somewhere in South East Asia. Alone but alive, the family must now work together to survive. This book is our family read-aloud.

Books I am planning to read

The Cruelest Month (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series Book 3) by Louise Penny
After enjoying the first two books of the Chief Inspector Gamache series, Still Life and Dead Cold, I decided I’d start reading the third book.

Morning Star: Book III of The Red Rising Trilogyby Pierce Brown (released February 9, 2016)
After the exhilaration of Red Rising and the disappointment of Golden Son I am curious to see how the third book of the Red Rising Trilogy will unfold.
