Our First Day in Mexico

After twenty-four hours in Puerto Escondido we found ourselves happily settled. The pace of life here is relaxed and I never seem to know what time it is. Sometime in the afternoon Maria, along with her mother-in-law, and myself went to the mercado (market) in search of sustenance for the day. The market is filled with fresh produce, seafood, beans, rice, dried peppers, queso (cheese) and meat. I tried to learn a few Spanish words as we meandered through and came away with ajo (garlic), jitomates (tomatoes) and cebolla (onion) which was a difficult one to remember. There are no prices listed at the market stalls and I found that a little frustrating. There is no denying that foreigners are charged more than locals, and yet prices are very reasonable regardless. We returned home with bags filled and went right to work preparing delicious Mexican food. I could happily subside on Mexican food and would likely eat guacamole by the heaping spoonful if nobody was watching.
