Myra-Bellevue Provincial Park

Myra-Bellevue Provincial Park is located on the southeast edge of Kelowna, BC (map). The park covers over 7600 hectares and has a large area in the centre, known as “the donut”, which is excluded from the park land. The park has a large network of trails making it a popular place for mountain biking, trail running and hiking. This park is also a great place for geocaching which was the reason we joined our friends to explore the area. For those new to geocaching, I suggest you read my post Geocaching: A Real World Treasure Hunt. Geocaching can be a fun way to explore an area and a good tool to motivate tired little hikers.

There are several ways to access the park. We accessed the park by driving to the end of Steward Road East. This park entrance has a nice parking area, outhouse and interpretive signs. It also has an easy interpretive loop trail perfect for younger children. I should mention that we briefly visited this park with friends last summer but our walk lasted about ten minutes. The trails are exposed making it uncomfortably hot for a summer hike with young children. Hiking through the park at this time of year (the early spring) is absolutely lovely. Just be aware to check for wood ticks when you’ve returned home.
