A New Word for 2017

by Josée

Happy New Year! It’s 2017 and I’m excited for all the adventures awaiting us this coming year. Before rushing ahead with all the dreaming and planning, I like to reflect a little on the past year and make a resolution of sorts. My New Year’s resolution is usually one word and I’ve been choosing one every January for the past six years. I can’t remember every word I’ve picked (unless I dig through my blog…) but there are definitely words that have had a lasting impact on me.

When choosing a word I look for one that will guide me, challenge me and help me be a better version of myself. Sometime the word comes easily, other times it’s a struggle finding one. This year a strong word presented itself to me and I accepted the challenge. For 2017 my word is FEARLESS!

It might come as a surprise to some that I would pick FEARLESS as my word of the year.  After all, here I am taking my kids hiking on trails, skiing down mountains, canoeing on lakes and traveling to foreign countries. The truth is, however, I have fears, worries and anxieties that sometimes hold me back.

I have shared a little about my anxiety in the past. In the last ten years I have experienced periods of anxiety that have been dark and crippling. While I have made great strides in facing my anxiety it still lingers in those recessed corners of my mind, making an appearance when least expected.

This year I want to live FEARLESSLY! I don’t want my decisions to be shadowed by the “what-ifs” of anxiety. I want to push my comfort zone, get breathless and to face my fears head-on.
