Welcome to Fall Outside 2018!
Fall Outside is 30 days of motivation and inspiration to get you and your child outside connecting with nature during one of the most difficult months of the year: November!
November in the north can be dark and dreary. By November, the magical colours of fall have started to fade away. The days are short and often there are dark clouds on the horizon. Many of us want to wish November away in exchange for the that first magical snowfall, those first ski days and the excitement of the holiday season.
But we shouldn’t just sit around wishing the November away! There is so much to see and explore in November, even if it takes a bit more effort to discover it.
That is exactly what Fall Outside is all about: making the extra effort to get outside, in November, whatever the weather.
How did Fall Outside start?
Dawn Suzette Smith, the blogger behind Mud Puddles and Meteors and co-author of the book Whatever the Weather was inspired to start Fall Outside in 2015. Dawn wanted to inspire families to enjoy nature together during a time of the year that can be more difficult to get outside.
In 2018 Dawn handed the Fall Outside movement to Josée Bergeron from Backwoods Mama to continue encouraging families to enjoy fall outside.
What can you expect in November?
Daily emails for a whole month!
For the entire month of November, you will receive daily outdoor nature prompt to fit into your day. You won’t need any special materials or to make any special “plans” for the prompts. They are meant to fit into you daily routine and to be a spark that will ignite your family’s sense of curious and wonder of nature each day.
Encouragement and Support
When is comes to encouraging our kids to go outside we parents, and caregivers play a crucial role. We are the compass that points our kids out the door and into nature. If we show a lack of interest or motivation to going outside, so will our kids. If we show interest and excitement to go outside, even on cold rainy days, our kids will learn to embrace nature in all its forms.
During Fall Outside I will be sharing ideas and resources to help you and your child get outside, whatever the weather!
